LAKEWOOD, Colorado – Paul Schwabe has been named Western Area Power Administration’s senior vice president and Transmission Infrastructure Program manager.
“For many years it has been a true dream of mine to collaborate with WAPA and the TIP team,” said Schwabe. “I am incredibly humbled to join the organization. I look forward to building upon the tremendous successes for WAPA and exploring new opportunities to support a clean, affordable and reliable electricity system.”
As the TIP manager located in Lakewood, Schwabe will lead the operation of WAPA’s Transmission Infrastructure Program. TIP manages WAPA’s $3.25 billion revolving loan program that has a congressional mandate to support projects that facilitate and optimize the delivery of reliable, affordable power generated by clean energy resources. TIP provides unique federal financing solutions and uses WAPA’s depth of transmission project development experience and expertise to advance projects aimed at expanding and modernizing the electric grid.
“Paul is a nationally recognized financial analyst and expert financial modeler with a portfolio of diverse roles. We welcome his considerable expertise and experience as we leverage our borrowing authority to support the transition to a clean and reliable energy future in the West,” said WAPA Administrator Tracey A. LeBeau. “It is my pleasure to welcome Paul to the senior leadership team.”
Paul has nearly 20 years of experience in the finance and energy industries. Most recently, Paul served as business manager in the Innovation, Partnering and Outreach Office at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colorado. While at NREL, Paul partnered with utilities of all types across the country, developing and implementing clean energy generation projects and programs and collaborating with organizational leaders on a $100 million partnership research portfolio to analyze, forecast and mitigate execution and financial risks of projects. Before joining NREL in 2008, he was a senior analyst at Consolidated Edison, Inc, in New York City and also served as a financial researcher at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.
Schwabe possesses a master’s degree in Applied Economics and Finance from the University of California in Santa Cruz where he also achieved a bachelor’s degree in Economics.
