MONTROSE, Colo. – The Western Area Power Administration announced today the selection of Rodney Bailey as Senior Vice President and Regional Manager for the Colorado River Storage Project Management Center based here.

Known as CRSP MC, the office oversees the marketing of approximately 5,400 gigawatt hours annually from 15 hydroelectric dams located throughout Arizona, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming and Texas. CRSP customers include numerous cities and towns, rural electric cooperatives, Native American tribes, irrigation districts and federal and state agencies, which power roughly 1.2 million homes annually.

“I am deeply honored to continue serving WAPA, our customers and our communities in this critical role,” said Bailey. “It’s a privilege to work alongside such a dedicated team and serve our customers who rely on hydropower as a vital resource. I look forward to building on WAPA’s strong legacy of innovation and collaboration along the Colorado River, and, together, we will continue to deliver reliable, sustainable power that empowers communities and strengthens the grid.”

Bailey began serving in the position, which was recently elevated to the Senior Executive Service, on Dec. 2. In this role, Bailey is responsible for leading all power marketing and operations activities for CRSP and its 38 employees who manage the sale, purchase, wheeling, interchange and transmission of energy for about 150 retail energy customers and other utilities across the West.

Commenting on the selection, WAPA Administrator and CEO Tracey A. LeBeau said Bailey will continue strengthening CRSP’s reputation for customer service and community support.

“We’re excited to have Rodney take on this expanded leadership role at WAPA, supporting our hydropower customers and advancing our mission out West,” said LeBeau. “His 25 years of federal hydropower expertise and a history of working side by side with numerous local, state, federal, and Tribal stakeholders make him exceptionally qualified for this position. Rodney’s deep understanding of the complexities of water management and energy issues along the Colorado River will be invaluable as we address the challenges of hydropower generation and transmission impacting multiple Western states and the many communities we help power.”

After joining WAPA in 1999 as a public utilities specialist, Bailey has both led and supported critical initiatives and projects for the CRSP MC. In 2009, he assumed the position of rates manager for the office, and was later named CRSP’s vice president of power marketing in 2011. He also served as WAPA’s power marketing advisor, a position he began in April 2016.

Bailey holds a bachelor’s degree in technology management from Utah Valley University.
