NEXTGEN PROJECT

Basin Electric Power Cooperative proposes to construct a 500- to 700-megawatt baseload generation facility to help meet the increased demand for electric power in the eastern portion of Basin Electric’s nine-state service area. Four preliminary location alternatives for the generation facility are being considered: two in the Selby, South Dakota area and two in the Pierre, South Dakota area.

Additional associated facilities include 230/345-kV transmission lines, a 36-inch to 42-inch water pipeline, and a water intake structure along Lake Oahe on the Missouri River.

Basin Electric has applied to interconnect the proposed Project to WAPA’s electric power transmission system.  WAPA will prepare an Environmental Impact Statement to address the construction and operation of the proposed Project.
