WELLTON-MOHAWK
520-MW GENERATING FACILITY, AZ, DOE/EIS-0358
Wellton-Mohawk Irrigation and Drainage District, Yuma County Water Users’ Association and Dome Valley Energy Partners, LLC, propose to build and operate a 500-MW, natural gas-fired, combined-cycle electric generating facility, an associated solar collection field and ancillary facilities. The proposed project would also include building a new 18.7-mile 161-kV transmission line, upgrading 12.7 miles of Western 161-kV transmission line, modifying two substations, and building either a 0.25-mile or a 12.7-mile natural gas pipeline.
The proposed facility would be developed in two phases. The full output of the first phase would be nominally rated at 260 MW with about 310-MW peaking capacity. The facility’s nominal rating after the second phase would be 520 MW. By using duct burners, it would achieve a peaking capacity of about 620 MW.
