Deer Creek Station Energy Facility Project

Basin Electric proposes to construct, own, operate, and maintain the Deer Creek Station Energy Facility Project, a 300-MW, combined-cycle, natural gas generation facility, water pipeline, transmission lines, transmission interconnection(s), and other associated facilities, all in Brookings and Deuel counties in eastern South Dakota. The purpose of the proposed Project is to help serve increased load demand for electric power in the eastern portion of Basin Electric’s service area. The need for additional generating capacity is driven by the increasing electrical power usage of the Basin Electric membership consumers.

Basin Electric has requested interconnection with WAPA’s electric transmission system at White Substation, located in Brookings County, South Dakota.

Record of Decision Issued

WAPA has approved the interconnection of a new gas-fired, electric generation facility located at White Site 1, about six miles southeast of White, S.D., to its transmission system. WAPA will make the necessary modifications for the interconnection to its existing White Substation.

Basin Electric has committed to minimize its proposed project’s impact on the environment through the project’s design, the use of pollution control technology and the implementation of mitigation measures identified in the Record of Decision.
