Freedom of Information Act

The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552  allows individuals to request access to federal information, except to the extent the information is exempt from disclosure under one or more of the nine exemptions of the FOIA. FOIA applies only to federal agencies and does not create a right of request records held by Congress, courts or by state or local government agencies.

Any individual, public or private organization/corporation, or foreign country may submit FOIA requests for a copy of WAPA records. The request must:

  1. Be in writing.
  2. Reasonably describe the records sought.
  3. Indicate a willingness to pay fees or ask for a fee waiver.

WAPA prefers the public to submit requests through the National FOIA portal at www.foia.gov .

Privacy Act Requests

Individuals, or their authorized representatives, may request access to records about themselves held by WAPA.

Individuals should submit a Privacy Act request by completing a Privacy Act Information Request Form .
Email your completed Privacy Act Form and identity-verification documents to PrivacyActOffice@hq.doe.gov.
