LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Western Area Power Administration was recently named a winner of PR Daily’s 2018 Corporate Social Responsibility Awards in the Organizational Transparency category for its proactive response to public criticism of a perceived mismanagement of funds.

“WAPA strives to be proactive in sharing information about our operations and activities; transparency and communication are central to our core values and identity,” said Administrator and CEO Mark A. Gabriel. “We welcome questions and opportunities to engage with our customers, media, members of Congress and other stakeholders.”

WAPA expanded The Source website to share 10 years’ worth of financial and business information related to WAPA’s operations. According to Ragan, “WAPA was aggressive in building awareness of the site’s availability,” developing videos to explain the most complex topics and reaching out directly to customers through new and revamped communication channels, such as the customer newsletter.

“Out of many outstanding submissions, we found WAPA’s work to truly set a new standard of excellence for all corporate communications professionals. We congratulate them and look forward to seeing their future successes in this field,” said Justine Figueroa, senior marketing coordinator for awards programs at Ragan Communications.

The Source builds on a tradition of transparency at WAPA. Customers and members of the public are invited to weigh in on the organization’s proposed actions for its transmission system, rate-setting activities and capital investment and expenditure plans spanning 10 years.

“The employees at WAPA are dedicated in their pursuit of top-notch customer service and doing what is right in everything we do,” said Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Dennis Sullivan. “Congratulations to everyone across the organization who spent hundreds of hours making The Source possible.”

WAPA’s win was announced via social media, and the winning team will also be recognized for its accomplishment in a special write-up on PR Daily’s internationally-read news website.
