LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Western Area Power Administration’s 2021 Annual Report is now available. The report’s theme, Balance, represents the many ways during the 2021 fiscal year in which the organization adapted to changes in the industry and the world while also pushing forward.
“Achieving balance was a challenge many of us likely pursued, not just at work but also in our personal lives,” said Administrator and CEO Tracey LeBeau in her opening letter. “As we adapted and evolved in this extraordinary world, it was critical for us to embody strength, resilience, unity and leadership while also being mindful of our enduring mission, reliability, regional differences and collaborative culture with our customers.”
The report highlights many examples of the organization demonstrating balance through challenging times, with a focus on safety, reliability and customer service. It features project spotlights that illustrate how successful the organization continues to be in a maximum telework stance due to the pandemic. WAPA’s ability to balance service and progress allowed the organization to continue to safely provide reliable, cost-based hydropower and transmission to the customers and communities that it serves.
Among the many other accomplishments spotlighted in this year’s annual report, readers will learn about how WAPA:
- Kept employees as safe as possible from COVID-19 while successfully fulfilling the organization’s mission.
- Explored membership in a fully integrated market for multiple regions.
- Updated its mission and vision to include the important tenets of safety and customer service.
- Faced the challenges of drought and high purchase power costs due to adverse operating conditions.
- Supported the central U.S. during a historic polar vortex with surplus hydropower and grid services.
“I commit to continue building on our historic foundation of serving the West with affordable hydropower and transmission services, while facing the winds of change in the energy world and ensuring that all of us continue to have a place in the future,” continued LeBeau. “I look forward to writing the next chapter of our story together as we strive for the appropriate balance between the many opportunities and challenges before us and secure a clean, resilient and reliable future.”
