Infrastructure maintenance and upgrades

Western Area Power Administration owns and operates more than 17,000 circuit miles of transmission lines, 258 substations and other electric power facilities in its 15-state service territory. To ensure reliable electric service, this system must be maintained and periodically upgraded. Also, facilities may need to be added or expanded to meet new demands.

The following are proposed construction projects on WAPA's transmission system in which WAPA will participate, either as the lead agency or as a partner:

Desert Southwest Region

Sterling Solar 2 Interconnection Project
TransWest Express Transmission Project

Rocky Mountain Region

Sierra Nevada Region

Upper Great Plains Region
