About the Project: The Front Range-Midway Solar Interconnection
Project, or Midway Solar Project, is a proposed 100-MW photovoltaic (PV) solar
facility located south of Fountain, Colorado (El Paso County), adjacent to
Western Area Power Administration’s (WAPA) Midway Substation. Front Range-Midway Solar, LLC, proposed the
Midway Solar Project to WAPA through a transmission interconnection request. WAPA needs to consider and respond to the
interconnection request in accordance with WAPA’s Open Access Transmission
Service Tariff and with the Federal Power Act.
Front Range-Midway Solar, LLC, has determined that approximately 911
acres would be needed for the development of the proposed Midway Solar Project. Midway Solar would interconnect to WAPA’s
Midway Substation with a gen-tie transmission line approximately 0.85 mile in
length.
To understand the potential environmental impacts of this proposed
Project, WAPA will prepare an Environmental Assessment (EA) following the
procedures outlined by the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). In the EA,
the potential impacts on the natural and built environment caused by the
proposed project and any alternatives, including the no-action alternative,
will be studied. The EA will also describe any mitigation measures that can be
incorporated into the proposed Project to minimize impacts. During this
process, WAPA will seek public input and comments.
Current Status: The Final EA and Finding of No Significant Impacts (FONSI) were approved on September 21, 2016, and are available within the PROJECT DOCUMENTS section below. These documents conclude WAPA's environmental review of the proposed Project. For further information, please contact:

The scoping comment period closed on
September 10, 2015. WAPA recently
sought comments on the Draft EA, of which the deadline for comment submittals was August 19, 2016.
