FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 10, 2020
LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Western Area Power Administration’s Senior Vice President and Desert Southwest Regional Manager Tracey LeBeau was recognized in April as one of the Denver Business Journal’s Top Women in Energy for 2020.
The magazine selected and spotlighted 44 influential women in the energy industry.
“Being recognized in this way is gratifying,” said LeBeau. “This is a group of proven, formidable leaders committed to advancing energy innovation and leadership.”
LeBeau began at WAPA in 2014 as the Transmission Infrastructure Program manager. In April 2018, she stood up and managed the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer. In this capacity, she organized and led Natural Resources, Procurement, Human Resources, Records Management, Facilities, the Transmission Infrastructure Program and the Office of Economic Impact and Diversity under a new leadership structure.
She began acting as the Desert Southwest regional manager in November 2019 and assumed that position officially in May 2020.
LeBeau attributes her success in the energy field to intellectual curiosity. “It helps to prevent intimidation of the unknown,” she said. “It can propel you to understand the core of issues and ask all of the whys. And it naturally invites diversity of thought which, in my experience, can be its own benefit.”
The honorees will be celebrated at a special event when the pandemic situation improves enough that this becomes possible.
For those wishing to develop as leaders, LeBeau has this guidance: “Do not be shy about volunteering for difficult assignments and asking for advice. And, importantly, listen to it. I would rather be known for taking a chance than not being known.”
Western Area Power Administration annually markets and transmits more than 28,000 gigawatt-hours of clean, renewable power from 57 federal hydroelectric power plants owned and operated by the Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and International Boundary and Water Commission in 15 western and central states. It is part of the Department of Energy. Follow us on Twitter @WesternAreaPowr
