LAKEWOOD, Colorado — Western Area Power Administration published its Fiscal Year 2016 Annual Report, titled "Powerful Partnerships," Dec. 30. The publication provides WAPA's stand-alone operational data and illustrates how collaboration and innovation contributed to the organization's ability to continue delivering its mission.

"Today we stand at the forefront of a rapidly changing industry," said WAPA Administrator and CEO Mark A. Gabriel. "Unfolding before us are opportunities we have not seen in our organization's history."

In the FY 2016 report, WAPA explains how its partnerships with industry entities, customers, the public, employees and other government agencies helped WAPA achieve its mission in a dynamic and complex landscape. Gabriel said, "At WAPA, we work closely with our customers making critical investments together and leveraging our powerful partnerships for shared success."

Specifically, in FY 2016, the organization:

  • Returned $429 million to the Department of Treasury and additional debt repayment
  • Became the first power marketing administration to join a regional transmission organization, a move that resulted in more first-year cost savings than initially projected
  • Integrated Critical Infrastructure Protection version 5 Standards into business practices across the organization, resulting in more secure and reliable operations

Gabriel added, "Together with our partners, we will move forward in a secure, affordable and reliable energy future."

WAPA's annual report is available on The Source, a website dedicated to displaying operational data and financial information in one convenient location.
