The Western Electricity Coordinating Council Board of Directors has confirmed Darren Buck as vice chair of its Operating Committee. Buck is WAPA’s Rocky Mountain Operations manager where he oversees the operations of facilities in Rocky Mountain, Desert Southwest and the Colorado River Storage Project.
Buck said, “I am honored to continue WAPA’s participation and leadership in working collaboratively with other leaders in the utility industry to address the critical issue of reliability of the grid in this rapidly changing and increasingly demanding time.”
In his role as vice-chair of the WECC Operating Committee vice chair, Buck will work with and provide backup for the committee chair. The Operating Committee, made up of utilities throughout the WECC footprint, is responsible for coordinating ten subgroups related to maintaining reliability through the operation and security of the integrated Bulk Electrical System.
Buck has been with WAPA for 24 years in the Design, Maintenance, Information Technology, and Operations divisions at WAPA’s Lakewood Office and in multiple regions. He has served as the North American Electric Reliability Corporation Operations Committee representative for the Federal entities and has represented WAPA in many other industry forums. He was also involved with WAPA's implementation of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Orders 888 and 889, Sierra Nevada’s Post-2004 Marketing plan, and most recently the Operations Consolidation Program.
