South African utility visits WAPA, seeks expertise

Members of South Africa’s Electricity Supply Commission, or ESKOM, a state-owned utility in South Africa, visited WAPA during a trip hosted by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency Nov. 22 to learn about best practices integrating renewable resources into the grid. ESKOM is planning to add 6,000 megawatts of renewable energy into its grid in the next five years. Energy Services Specialist Ron Horstman (left, back row) coordinated their visit and gathered employees from Engineering, Transmission Planning, Electric Power Training Center and senior management to address ESKOM’s specific questions and objectives.
