LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Administrator and CEO Mark A. Gabriel has named Tim Vigil as the new senior vice president and Colorado River Storage Project Manager. He starts in the position Aug. 16.
“Tim brings a wealth of experience and knowledge of WAPA and CRSP. I have full confidence that Tim is the right person to be at the helm as we make progress along a number of critical initiatives facing CRSP, including the move to the Western Energy Imbalance Service, exploring a combined transmission line rate with Desert Southwest transmission projects, helping protect the environmental resources below Glen Canyon Dam and more,” said Gabriel.
Vigil will lead all power marketing and operations activities for CRSP Management Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, and the Energy Management and Marketing Office in Montrose, Colorado. CRSP MC’s 38 employees manage the sale, purchase, wheeling, interchange and transmission of energy for about 150 retail energy customers and other utilities in Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Utah and Wyoming.
CRSP MC markets power from 11 hydroelectric powerplants and delivers it across more than 2,300 miles of transmission lines and 35 high-voltage transformers. On average, the powerplants produce about 5.7 billion kilowatt-hours of energy annually, which can provide 100 percent of electricity needs for an estimated 527,000 American households.
“I am excited for the opportunity to lead an incredible team at CRSP and work with our customers and others stakeholders to preserve the value of the hydropower product now and in the energy frontier,” said Vigil.
CRSP MC plays an important role in protecting environmental resources around Glen Canyon Dam, representing hydropower interests and funding scientific studies for the Glen Canyon Dam Adaptive Management Program. CRSP MC also implemented measures from the Glen Canyon Dam Long-Term Experimental and Management Plan Record of Decision in 2017.
Most recently, Vigil was the VP of Power Marketing for CRSP MC, a position he began 2019. Vigil arrived at WAPA in 2001 after serving in the U.S. Navy. He started at WAPA in Rocky Mountain’s Power Contracts and Energy Services office. Between 2003 and 2019, Vigil worked at the CRSP Energy Management and Marketing Office in various roles, including real-time marketer, real-time supervisor and EMMO manager. Vigil holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the California State University-Northridge.
