Journey Level

  1. Ability to do the work of a Converter Technician without more than normal supervision. Install and commission, or maintain and repair, at least four of the following: 1) high voltage direct current (HVDC) valves and controls, 2) valve cooling systems, 3) monitor and support systems, 4) associated building support systems including HVAC, 5) high voltage switchyard, 6) supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) equipment/other communications equipment (Screen out)
  2. Knowledge of electrical equipment
  3. Theory and instruments used in shop and trade practices
  4. Technical practices
  5. Ability to use electrical drawings
  6. Ability to use and maintain electronic test equipment and hand tools
  7. Troubleshooting (electrical)

Foreman

Replace element #1 above with:

1. Ability to lead the work of a crew of converter technician and other crafts (such as electronic equipment craftsmen, linemen, or electricians) (Screen Out)

Craftsman-in-Training (CIT)

To qualify for this position, you must

1) Have some knowledge of this craft

AND

2) Meet at least one of the following requirements

  1. Completed a 4-year apprentice program in a related craft
  2. Employment as a Western journeyman in the craft occupations (i.e. in the “WB” pay plan)
  3. Hold, or have held, the journeyman level (i.e., a level achieved by at least 4 years of training) in a related craft

Examples of related craft areas include:

  • Communications Technician (such as with SCADA or microwave in a military/utility/telecommunications setting)
  • Protection Technician (for instance in a military/utility/telecommunications setting)
