Western Energy Imbalance Service activities

On Feb. 1, 2021, the Rocky Mountain and Upper Great Plains regions and the Colorado River Storage Project successfully transitioned into the Southwest Power Pool's Western Energy Imbalance Service market, completing this initiative. This webpage is not expected to be updated further. To learn more about WAPA's other markets efforts as well as other key activities, visit the Key Topics webpage.

Background

On Sept. 9, 2019 the Rocky Mountain and Upper Great Plains regions and the Colorado River Storage Project announced their intent to move forward with participation in Southwest Power Pool's Western Energy Imbalance Service. In order to be ready for the February 2021 launch date of the SPP WEIS, WAPA must complete a number of activities internally and with the WEIS partners. WAPA is committed to continuing conversations and sharing information with customers during the implementation phase.

Note: On Nov. 12, 2020, WAPA announced it would be exploring Southwest Power Pool Regional Transmission Organization membership for Loveland Area Projects and Upper Great Plains - West. This will not affect the WEIS market transition. Learn more about this effort at the Key Topics webpage.
