LOVELAND, Colo.—With the nation’s focus on energy independence and sustainability, it is important to promote the benefits of science and math among middle school youth. Western Area Power Administration is doing just that by hosting the Colorado Regional Middle School Science Bowl, a math and science competition for middle school students Feb. 2 at Mountain View High School in Loveland, Colorado, beginning at 8:15 a.m.

Students representing 12 schools from across Colorado will test their knowledge of science and vie for first place and a free trip to the National Science Bowl in Washington, D.C., held April 25-29. The regional and national events encourage student involvement in math and science, improve awareness of career options in science and technology, and provide an avenue of enrichment and reward for academic science achievement.

Preston Middle School, winner of the 2018 Colorado Regional Middle School Science Bowl, will be defending its title against the other participating schools:

  • Excel Academy Charter School
  • Gilpin County Middle School
  • Kinard Core Knowledge Middle School
  • Liberty Common Charter School
  • Preston Middle School
  • Poudre School District Global Academy
  • Ridgeview Classical Charter Schools
