PEORIA RESIDENT RECOGNIZED FOR EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE

Phoenix, Ariz. — Peoria resident Stan Spencer will receive Western Area Power Administration’s highest honor at a ceremony June 25 at Western’s Desert Southwest Regional office in Phoenix. Western’s Administrator Tim Meeks will present Spencer with Western’s Exceptional Service Award during the ceremony.

“Our employees make up the heart and soul of our organization and are the key to our success,” said Meeks. "Employees like Stan inspire us through their outstanding contributions, commitment and service. I appreciate his strong work ethic, persistence, determination and dedication to helping us succeed.”

Spencer began working for Western as an apprentice lineman in 1982 for the Desert Southwest Region. During his tenure with Western, he has served as power system maintenance specialist, union representative, Transmission Lines Maintenance Division Director, Equal Employment Opportunity representative and mentor. Currently he is the manager of Transmission Lines and Substation Maintenance.

Despite his fear of heights and electricity, Spencer is recognized across Western as an expert in the transmission line field. For 27 years, he helped develop transmission line projects, including the scope of work, design and installation requirements and transmission system maintenance procedures.

He and his wife Carol live in Peoria, Ariz. He enjoys flying aircrafts, sand drag racing, hunting and fishing. He’s involved in the community through his membership in the Civil Air Patrol and his past leadership and active participation in the Combined Federal Campaign, an annual charity drive among Federal agencies.

The Exceptional Service Award is the highest award granted by Western's Administrator. In addition to serving Western for at least five years, employees must meet four criteria to earn this recognition, including:
