WESTERN, CITY OF NEEDLES, NATIVE AMERICANS PARTNER FOR POWER
PHOENIX, Ariz.—The City of Needles, Calif., Fort Mojave Indian Tribe and its utility, Aha Macav Power Service, and Western Area Power Administration will dedicate the new 69-kV line along the California/Arizona border at a ceremony to be held May 5, 2008, starting at 9 a.m., at the City of Needles Council Chambers.
The new power line uses the innovative new composite conductor technology, which increases reliability for the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe and the City of Needles. Western provided the funding and project management to interconnect the new line to the City’s system at the new Firehouse Substation. The four-mile Colorado River line to the Tribe’s No Name Substation not only connects the City and the Tribe to additional power and transmission resources, but is also designed to carry additional capacity to accommodate future population growth in the area.
The dedication ceremony begins with speakers from the four agencies (City, Tribal Council, AMPS and Western) at the Needles City Council Chambers at 1111 Bailey Avenue. Afterwards, a ribbon-cutting will take place on-site at the Firehouse Substation (a.k.a. the old bowling alley property) at 3240 Needles Highway.
For more information, call Cheryl Sallis at the City of Needles at 760-326-2113 ext. 315, or Dennis Schaefer at Western at 602-605-2521.
