18TH ANNUAL SACRAMENTO SCIENCE, MATH COMPETITION COMING MARCH 1
LAKEWOOD, Colo.—Northern California high school students will test their knowledge of the broad subject of science as they match wits during the 18th Annual Sacramento Regional Science Bowl competition, Saturday, March. 1. Twenty-six teams from 15 schools will vie for top honors at Rio Americano High School, 4540 American River Drive, in Sacramento, beginning at 9 a.m. Admission is free, and check in begins at 8 a.m. The public is invited to watch the competition and support favorite teams.
The fast-paced quiz format will challenge the students' knowledge of astronomy, biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics, computer and earth science. Sponsored by Western Area Power Administration and its partners, the all-day competition format is similar to a quiz show. The winning team of this regional event receives an all-expense paid trip to participate in the National Science Bowl in Washington, D.C., May 1–6, 2008.

MEDIA ADVISORY:
The morning competition is a round-robin format.
Teams with the most points will advance to the
afternoon double elimination tournament with the
championship round set for about 4 p.m. The awards
ceremony will follow immediately. Interviews with
competing teams and their coaches will be available
throughout the day.
