MIRA LOMA WINS 16TH ANNUAL SCIENCE AND MATH COMPETITION
IN SACRAMENTO
FOLSOM, CA - A team from Mira Loma High School, Sacramento,
took top honors in the Sacramento Regional Science
Bowl competition Saturday at Jesuit High School and
will join approximately 65 other teams at the national
Science Bowl in Washington, D.C, on April 27 to May
1.
After playing two final competitions against the
Mira Loma B team, first place in the regional competition
was awarded to the Mira Loma A team. Team members
are Brendan Chan (Senior), Joe Antognini (Senior),
Steven Wu (Junior), Alexander Chang (Senior, who
was also on the team that went to Nationals last
year), Ruslan Kurdyumov (Senior), James Hill,
Coach. This will be Chan’s, Chang’s
and Kurdyumov’s
second trip to the national competition. Fourteen
schools and 24 teams in the Sacramento area, including
Dixon and Davis, competed in Saturday’s all-day
competition.
Major sponsors of this year’s event include
the Western Area Power Administration, Sacramento
Municipal Utility District, Northern California Power
Agency, and City of Roseville. Instructors from California
State University, Sacramento, and Sacramento City
College also assisted in the event.
Western annually markets and transmits Federal
hydropower from in 15 western and central states.
Western is one of four DOE power marketing administrations.
It hosts regional Science Bowl competitions in
Arizona , California , Colorado , Montana , North
Dakota and South Dakota .
