NEBRASKA PUBLIC POWER DISTRICT
RECOGNIZED FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY AND ENERGY EFFICEINCY
EFFORTS
LAKEWOOD , Colo. —The Nebraska Public Power District was recognized today for its energy efficiency and renewable energy programs. William Ferhman, NPPD’s CEO, accepted Western Area Power Administration’s prestigious Administrator’s Award from Western’s Upper Great Plains Regional Manager Robert Harris at NPPD’s headquarters in Columbus, Neb.
“NPPD has been very innovative and proactive by merging its customers’ needs into a strategic commitment to renewable energy development,” said Craig Knoell, Western’s Rocky Mountain Region’s Engineering and Construction manager. Knoell helped nominate NPPD while he was a field representative with Western’s Upper Great Plains Region.
NPPD earned the award based on three key areas:
Commitment to build and operate Nebraska ’s largest renewable energy project—the Ainsworth Wind Farm. When it goes on-line later this year, Ainsworth will produce up to 60 MW of energy, or enough to serve about 19,000 customers.
Innovative customer involvement programs, including new and diverse advisory panels and a formal, deliberative polling process to help NPPD understand and integrate customer input. NPPD established two new customer committees—the Rate Review Committee and the Power Resource Advisory Board—to provide customers a proactive voice in the strategy and decisions that impact them the most.
Customer-driven, energy-efficient technical
solutions delivered through customer representatives
who provide technical assistance and training.
NPPD’s Technical Solutions group demonstrated
its leadership in
Western’s Upper Great Plains Region by partnering with Western and the Nebraska Municipal Power Pool to develop, promote and host a recent, state-wide lighting efficiency workshop that attracted participants from the residential and commercial sectors, as well as state and municipal facility managers.
The award recognizes Western customers who demonstrate superior achievements and commitment in the energy efficiency field, renewable energy arena, or both.
Nebraska Public Power District serves 91 of the 93 Nebraska counties with retail and/or wholesale power contracts.
Western Area Power Administration annually markets and transmits more than 10,000 megawatts of power from hydroelectric powerplants owned and operated by the Bureau of Reclamation and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 15 western and central states. It is part of the Department of Energy.
