MIRA LOMA WINS 15TH ANNUAL SCIENCE AND MATH COMPETITION IN SACRAMENTO

FOLSOM, CA — A team from Mira Loma High School took top honors in the Sacramento Regional Science Bowl competition Saturday at Granite Bay High School and will join approximately 65 other teams at the national Science Bowl in Washington, D.C, on April 28 to May 2.

Team members are Ruslan Kurdyumov, Brendan Chan, Joanna Nishimura, Albert Chi and Alexander Chang. James Hill is the team coach.

Twenty-one teams from 14 schools answered questions in astronomy, biology, chemistry, earth science, general/applied science, energy, mathematics, and physics. A different team from Mira Loma High School, Sacramento, was the regional winner last year.

Major sponsors of this year’s event include Western Area Power Administration, Sacramento Municipal Utility District, the City of Shasta Lake, Northern California Power Agency, and Navigant Consulting, Inc.

Western annually markets and transmits Federal hydropower from in 15 western and central states. Western is one of four DOE power marketing administrations. It hosts regional Science Bowl competitions in Arizona , California , Colorado , Montana , North Dakota and South Dakota .
