WESTERN SCHEDULES MAY 14 RATES MEETING

FOLSOM, Calif.—On  May 14, Western Area Power Administration’s Sierra Nevada Region will host a meeting to discuss rate design and cost recovery principles for products and services that Western anticipates providing beginning Jan. 1, 2005.

The meeting, which is open to the public, is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break. It will be held in the Folsom Community Center, 52 Natoma St. To ensure adequate seating, attendees are asked to contact Marie See at Western, by e-mail at see@wapa.gov, or phone at 916-353-4570, by May 12.
 

A new Marketing Plan for the region goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2005. The Marketing Plan specifies the terms and conditions under which Western will market power from the Central Valley and Washoe projects.

Western will discuss rate design and cost recovery principles for power, transmission, and related services for the Central Valley Project, California-Oregon Transmission Project, and Pacific Northwest-Southwest Alternating Current Intertie.

A formal rate development process is scheduled to begin early next year. A separate public process will be scheduled to evaluate future operational alternatives for the Central Valley Project.

The Sierra Nevada Region is one of four regions of Western Area Power Administration, a Federal power marketing administration. Western sells power and transmission to more than 70 customers in Northern and Central California. The region sells power from powerplants owned and operated by the Bureau of Reclamation in the Central Valley Project and serves these customers by operating and maintaining and 855 miles of high-voltage transmission lines
