Mountain View High School heads to Nationals in

DOE Science Bowl

Defeating Tucson High Magnet School in the final round of the Arizona Regional Science Bowl, five students from Mountain View High School in Mesa, Ariz. will head to Washington D.C. for the National finals, April 30-May 3.

Team members, Jack Zeal, Humberto Sirvent, Sterling Nesbitt, and Rebekah Bratrud, competed with 14 other teams in the Arizona Regional Science Bowl held Saturday at Glendale Community College. After nine rounds, Mountain View was declared the winning team in a close final match with Tucson High Magnet School. Their coach is Mountain View Science teacher Jeanne Evenson.

Along with Tucson and Chandler High School teams, which placed second and third respectively, the Mountain View students will attend a corporate dinner hosted by the Arizona Alliance for Math Science and Technology Education and attended by CEO's of Intel, Motorola and local corporations.

Mountain View will then attend the Department of Energy's National competition with 51 other teams in early May. The winning team at the National competition will travel to Sydney, Australia for a week of the International School of Physics for high school students.

This is the sixth year that Western Area Power Administration has hosted the regional event, along with local sponsors such as Southwest Gas, Arizona Public Service, Salt River Project, and Arizona Electric Power Cooperative (AEPCO).
