GOLDEN, CO--Michael S. Hacskaylo was named Western's Acting Administrator
by Energy Secretary Federico Peña in a memorandum signed today. Upon
receipt of this news, Hacskaylo named Deputy General Counsel Liova Juarez
as Acting General Counsel.
In commenting on his selection, Hacskaylo noted, "It's important that Western
move forward on all our strategic planning initiatives. I am confident Western
employees will join with me and all Western's managers in keeping Western
at the forefront of our industry."
Hacskaylo has served as Western's General Counsel since August 1985. In this
position, he supervised Western's legal staff, providing legal services on
such issues as power marketing, land, environmental, personnel, labor and
other issues impacting Western.
Hacskaylo began his career in 1976 in Washington, D.C., where he worked in the Solicitor's Office of the Department of the Interior. There he provided legal advice on land and water issues to the Bureau of Reclamation. He has been with Western since 1981 as an attorney. Hacskaylo was appointed Deputy General Counsel in April 1985 before becoming General Counsel and now Western's Acting Administrator.
Originally from Falls Church, Va., Hacskaylo graduated in 1972 from the University of Virginia, where he received a bachelor's degree in history and economics. In 1976, Hacskaylo received his law degree from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va.
Hacskaylo is admitted to practice law in Virginia and Colorado. He is a member of the Virginia, Federal, and Federal Energy bar associations.
Juarez began her Federal career in 1981 with the General Services Administration. In 1985 Juarez joined Western as an attorney adviser and was named Deputy General Counsel in 1992. She is a 1977 graduate of the University of Denver Law School.
