North Dakota Maintenance Office plants tree in Morris’ memory

Patty Morris plants a tree in Brian Morris' memory

Brian's wife Patty Morris, left, and his daughter, Ashley,
plant a tree July 7 in his honor at the Bismarck District
Office just outside of Morris' office window.

Less than a week after tragedy left the North Dakota shop reeling over Brian Morris' passing, employees began the healing process for themselves and for Morris' family by planting a blue spruce in his honor on July 7 at the family's request.

"We had a gathering of all Bismarck employees, Brian's wife, daughter, son-in-law, mother, sister, cousins and his special friends, and planted this special tree in his honor directly out of his west office window," said Jule Holzer, a Maximo coordinator/ site manager in Bismarck. "The North Dakota Maintenance Office will purchase a memorial plaque to be placed by this special tree in Brian’s honor. The plaque will read: In Loving Memory, Brian C. Morris, January 12, 1956 - July 1, 2008, Best. Guy. Ever."

She added, "As a contract employee for almost 23 years, Brian never made me feel less important. He would be there for you, just like if you were a Federal employee. His love for the family, outdoors and his job were three things he cherished." Speaking directly to Morris, she said, "Continue to watch over us and guide us–we still need you. Remember to keep giving us all that great big smile and 'smirkish' grin that we all will remember you by and miss dearly. We love you, Brian."
