Sun powers Taos radio station

Hidden in the mountains south of Taos, N.M., is the transmitter of a local radio station. KTAO is completely solar powered with 140 solar panels set atop Picuris Peak. The 50,000-watt station has a 50-volt DC transmitter that stores enough voltage to allow the station to broadcast for up to 10 sunless days.

The only other solar-powered radio station in the world is located in South Africa, and its power is a fraction of Taos Solar.
