2008 Science Bowl regional competitions conclude
They were quizzed, challenged—and in some cases, overruled—but in the end the lucky few walked away with a trophy and a promise to do it all over again in May.
Who are they? The 2008 Science Bowl participants, whose months of intense study on everything from chemistry to physics were put to the test during six regional competitions sponsored by Western in February and March. Winning teams advance to the national competition in Washington, D.C., May 1 to 6.
Among those who will compete in our nation's capital are teams who have previously vied for the national championship, including:
-
2007 winner, Poudre High School from Ft. Collins, Colo., which defended its title at the Rocky Mountain Regional Feb. 2 in Loveland
-
Dickinson High School from Dickinson, N.D., took top honors at the North Dakota Regional Science Bowl, Feb. 2
-
-
-
Brophy College Preparatory from Phoenix, which won the Arizona Regional on March 1
While Mira Loma High School from Sacramento, Calif. took top honors at the Sacramento Regional for the 13th time on March 1; a schedule conflict will prevent the winners, Team 1, from attending the national championship. Second-place finisher, Mira Loma High School Team 2, will represent the region in the national competition.
Many thanks go out to all the Western employees and retirees for their tireless work to organize these regional competitions, which allow high school students the chance to showcase their talents and knowledge in math and science.
